Argus case study

Argus are an independent media organisation specialising in publishing market analysis reports on price assessments, business intelligence and industry trends.

The Brief

After carrying out a discovery workshop with Argus we established the following requirements for the new Argus Fertiliser Directory website:

Increase industry collaboration

Allow organisations in the African fertiliser industry to find out about other companies who they might trade with.

Managed content and users

Organisations needed to be able to update their own company, employee and partner information through designated user accounts on the website which could be linked to organisations.

Custom workflows

Argus administrators needed a way to see which organisations had been left dormant (no updates in a year) so that they could follow up to see if the company was still active or support them in other ways.

Data migration

An existing database of contacts existed and needed to be imported to the new platform as a starting point so the website could be functional from day one.

User content approval process

A user approval process was required in order to ensure new companies and contacts could be added but moderated by Argus admins.

Increase industry engagement

Through a gamification element of the new platform in the form of profile completeness for company profiles, Pivale hoped to encourage companies to reach the 100% mark and provide Argus admins and website users with more relevant information.

Solutions provided

  • We worked with Argus team leaders to work through their user stories and requirements.
  • We created a phased plan for the delivery of the requirements so that stakeholders could give early feedback on the functionality.
  • We created a Drupal website that had a custom responsive theme which allowed the website to work across a variety of devices.
  • We crafted custom workflows in the Drupal Content Management System for ease of use for end users and administrators.
  • We added geolocation and mapping functionality to allow people to see the companies that were near to them or in a specific location.
  • We created a structured categorisation of content by business and service types to allow various way to filter company listings.

Launch and beyond

Argus Media now has a simple to update, powerful platform which serves the Africa fertiliser market to aid inter-company networking; it's quite literally a piece of online software for sowing success & fertilising Africa!
