Everything flows from one platform.

RWC, a multinational maker of water flow and control products, had grown by acquisition into a sprawl of brand websites on different systems. Pivale brought them onto one multisite platform: 45 websites became 6 domains, and hosting costs fell by 80%.

Many websites, teams, brands and locations.

RWC wanted to bring together the brands they had bought over the years. Their websites had been built at different times, on different content management systems and technologies, and cost a lot to maintain.

Updates, bug fixes and security patches took developers time to review and apply, and each release took five days of manual work.

RWC needed their websites, brands, teams and locations connected again, as a true family of brands. Each site had to serve installers, architects and specifiers, and stockists, from installation guides to technical files and where to buy.

Pivale ran the EMEA sites and worked with RWC's US team on the sites for the US and Canada, alongside Milestone Creative (brand assets and design) and Web Results Direct (SEO). John Guest launched in March 2022, Reliance Valves in June and SharkBite in July, and the competitions platform in January 2023.

A family of brands on one platform.

  1. 1

    One multisite platform

45 separate websites now run on one multisite across 6 domains, with shared processes for content, infrastructure and security.

  2. 2

    Project Harmonia

Discovery ran under one codename: a working document, interactive prototypes and answers to stakeholders' questions, which gave RWC's leadership a business case for consolidation.

  3. 3

One address per country and language

Every web address starts with the domain, country and language, and visitors land on their own country's version of a site. A custom Cloudflare worker serves several systems from one domain.

  4. 4

    Translation and product data

Machine translation through Lingotek is checked by their translators and approved by bilingual RWC staff. With no PIM in place, RWC's teams keep product data in spreadsheets that a custom importer checks and loads.

  5. 5

    Automated deployments

An enterprise CI/CD platform replaced a five-day manual release with a five-minute automated build.

  6. 6

    Faster reviews and fixes

Reviewing updates, fixing bugs and applying security patches became 50% more productive for developers.

  7. 7

    A competitions platform

A £120k investment in a competitions platform brought in £1.12m in additional sales, and the first campaign returned 9x its cost.

Less is more.

  1. 1

Moving to an enterprise CI/CD platform cut RWC's hosting bill by 80%.

  2. 2

    Five minutes

Automated builds made deployments 700 times faster.

  3. 3

    87% fewer websites

45 separate websites became 6 domains, and reviewing updates, fixing bugs and applying security patches became 50% more productive for developers.

  4. 4

    9x return

The first campaign on the competitions platform returned 9x its cost.

  5. 5

    Tested before every launch

Automated tests, cross-browser checks and WCAG AA contrast checks (some brand colours were adjusted to pass) closed every critical issue before each brand site launched.
